Holiday Decorations

Boards may decorate the common areas for religious holidays if approved by a majority of a quorum of the board. The First Amendment restrictions on the government do not apply to homeowner associations.

Associations should allow members to decorate their homes and balconies for the holidays utilizing their own electricity. However, boards may adopt reasonable rules limiting:

  • When owners can start decorating, and
  • How long decorations can remain up after the holiday has passed.
